The Division 5 team beat Aghohill by 2:13 to 0:9 with a fine second half display, from Niall Cunningham, Niall MacDonald and Conor Taylor to the fore.
After a poor opening quarter, which saw the visitors trail by 5 pts
to 1 and after a litany of missed free kicks, the midfied pairing of MacDonald and
Horrisk asserted their control and Conor Taylor, Cormac McGrady and Conor Mackle finally got the Malone Road men ticking. The dismissal of the hosts’ centre half back for a second booking before half time left the scoreline 0:7 to 0:3.
The tactical switch to use sub Niall Cunningham as the spare man paid dividends after the break with two great scores coming from him on the restart. The moving of Chris Mooney to left half back meant the left footer could attack with gaps opening up in the hosts defence and Chris contributed three fine points from play. Once Conor Taylor lobbed a sideline ball wind assisted to the top corner of the net, the game was never in doubt. With Brendan “the rock” MacDonald and Paul Finnegan solid in the full back line, the last ten minutes were relatively easy as Cunningham showed his class.
