Five seasons ago St Brigid’s first fifteen lost to cargin thirds in Antrim Div 5 ACFL.
This season it took two late goals from the Bannsiders second string to beat the Malone Road Gaels second string at a splendidly turned out Toome venue last Wednesday night in a quality game of championship football.

The standard of football was excellent and eventually the pace and intensity of players regularly playing two divisions above the St Brigid’s team told in the end.
Match highlights included a screamer from Paddy MacDonald whose shot came off the stancion harder than it went in, an early goal from Mel MacSherry who had a return to form, and some nice touches from Conor Mullan.

However, with FIVE POINTS UP WITH NINE MINUTES LEFT, St Brigid’s snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. A strong bench and experienced fresh legs gave the extra impetus to the Toome men in this last vital stage.

Final score of 3:9 to 3:7

Attention now turns to Division 5 and the push to be in contention for promotion
for the Malone Road Gaels.
