Moneyglass 4-21 St Brigid’s 2-13

St Brigid’s senior ladies got a bit of a shock in Moneyglass last evening when they were comprehensively outplayed in the first twenty minutes by a well drilled fast moving home team.

The result became secondary after the first half injury to Caoimhe McCullagh who dislocated her shoulder in an innocuous challenge after about 15 minutes.
Caoimhe was in agony and the excellent communication between Turlough Montague, emergency services and Antrim Area Hospital meant that Caoimhe was able to be treated quickly in Antrim and receive some pain relief in the ambulance on the difficult journey to A&ampE. All our thoughts are with Caoimhe as we wish her a speedy and full recovery.

The St Brigid’s girls failed to deal with the pace and method of St Ergnat’s. The speed and accuracy of kick outs and the forward play left the younger Malone girls chasing shadows for a big part of the first half. A few missed chances and missed passes cost dearly as the home team romped to a big half time lead.
Half Time
Moneyglass 1-12 Naomh Brid 0-6

The injury to Caoimhe and the first half experience galvanised the visitors to up their performance in the second half. Catherine Mullan and Orla Montague showed leadership at half time and coach McKendry asked for more.

The second half was a much better showing. Anna Finnegan and Aoife Montague bagged their customary goal. Rachael McKeogh hoovered up around the middle. Mary Keenan, Katie McMullan and Aoibhe McCann shored up the half back line whilst Kate Finnegan, Bronagh McKendry and Jennnifer McMullan tried to hold the very mobile and accurate full forward line.

Rose McKeogh was making her presence felt after being introduced for Caoimhe McCullagh.
Jenny McMullan who was working hard had to retire with a leg injury to be replaced by Aoife Owens who was certainly better rested that “adult” brother Aidan who certainly kept some of the ladies up a little bit late the night before!

Ellen McGrath and Rachel Morris carried the ball forward and connected well the corners. Hannah will hopefully be welcomed back next week.
Orla Montague and Catherine Mullan battled to the end and despite all the efforts, keeper Aine McKendry was left stranded by her defence as Moneyglass bagged a couple of late goals.

Excellent second half effort and special mention again for Caoimhe on the disappointment of her injury and also Orla Montague on her commitment who had to leave Moneyglass to travel to Sligo last night.
