CONGRATS TO FERGAL LEYDEN AND CONOR HUGHES OF ST. BRIGIDS FOR THEIR FANTASTIC ACHIEVEMENT WITH RATHMORE GRAMMAR SCHOOL. HOPEFULLY THEY CAN BRING THEIR UNDOUBTED TALENT TO ST. BRIGIDS THIS YEAR IN THE U-12 AND U-14 TEAMS.

The Antrim year 8 indoor 5 a side hurling blitz was played on Friday 18th Jan at St John’s GAC Belfast. Seven schools took part in the blitz,
St Patrick’s Lisburn, St Patrick’s Bearnageeha, St Mac Nissis Garron Tower, St Malachy’s Belfast, Corpus Christi College, Glen Road CBS, Rathmore GS. The blitz started at 10 am with all matches refereed by Padraig Mullan. The teams played in 2 groups with the semi finals placings being, Rathmore 3 v 1 Glen Road CBS and Garron Tower winning against CCC, scoreline 7 v 1 , leaving Garron Tower v Rathmore in the final .
All schools played at least 3 games each and thanks to all the players for taking part and making it an enjoyable blitz. Thanks also to all the teachers, Miss Gough, Mr C O Grady, Mr P Mc Ilwaine,, Mr P Molloy, Mr M Gannon, Mr P Mac Cathail ,Mr N Banks, Mr M Devlin for taking the time to attend.
The final which started at 1 pm was very enjoyable and became even more exciting as the match progressed. In the first half Garron Tower were on top scoring 2 goals leaving it 2 v 0 at half time. Rathmore came out strong at the beginning of the 2nd half and within 2 minutes had levelled the match. In the next 3 minutes each side strove to score the winner however both goalkeepers pulled off excellent saves coupled with tremendous defending from both sets of backs there were no further scores and the final whistle was blown with scores level.
It was decided then that the first team to score the next CÚL would be the winner. Play was from end to end, being competitive and some excellent hurling ie ground blocks, hooking and ground striking. After approx, an extra 5 mins Rathmore got the CÚL which meant they had won on a scoreline
