The U14 Ladies were unable to close out the season with a home win as our visitors from Moneyglass delivered us a strong defeat at Musgrave.
Symptomatic of this season has been our slow start in several games where we have found ourselves battling uphill, and usually winning through in the end, after letting the opposition in early. Against most teams, we have had the strength and guile to pick ourselves up and deliver by the final whistle, but against such a well drilled and powerful squad such as St Ergnatt’s, this is always a tough ask.
Whether it was tired legs from a long season, or the fact that we were missing a few key players and forced to play some of our girls out of position, once the girls from the country got themselves in front, there was no way that they were going to let us back in. Moneyglass won well and congratulations to them in their second place in the league.
This game brings down the curtain on a number of our players at U14 level and hopefully, their hunger and energy will carry through to the 16’s next year. We wish them well. For the ‘senior’ girls who are left, you are now the ones who will take up the baton and run with it. For those who are joining the squad this year, we will endeavour to capture your energy and feed it into the engine of this ever evolving squad.
A fourth Antrim Feile title in five years, an Antrim Championship Final runner-up, a third place league finish, a Kilmacud 7’s semi-final and a Culbert Brennan Cup! Not a bad CV for the past season…and here’s to surpassing it next year!
As always, thanks to parents, coaches, referees, players and to all those at the Club who let us do what we do best! Naomh Brid Abu!
