U12 Challenge game v Sean Stinsons

Venue: Ahoghill Date: 1st October 2014

Thanks to Darren for compiling the reports

Our U12 hurlers were invited to play a challenge game against Sean Stinsons and for many of the players it was their first time playing under the floodlights. The game itself was a very tight affair as both teams were able to field 14 players on a shortened pitch. The scores were hard to come by for both teams but our hosts took the honours on a score line of 1:6 to 1:4 with Andrew getting the major and Shane and Sean getting the points.

Thanks Thanks to Dessie for the invite and we wish him luck in his forthcoming championship game. Thanks to our players parents for again travelling in great numbers and braving a chilly evening. Finally well done to our hurlers who competed against a very skilful hurling team and I hope they enjoyed the game under the lights even though some of them were complaining about the cool evening! U12 Armagh Cuchullianns Annual Tournament

Venue: Pearse Og Armagh

Date: 4th October 2014

Brid Og got a very late invite to an U12 tournament organised by Armagh Cuchullianns and gratefully accepted the offer. There was an Ulster Championship feel to the Tournament as competing were 5 teams from Antrim, Armagh, Derry and Tyrone with each team playing each other before being graded for the Cup and Shield Competition.

Our first game was against Dungiven side Kevin Lynchs on the second pitch and the Og’s got off to a flier with several goals scored in the first half as the Lynchs defended the large goals however in the second half the Lynchs got some scores themselves but the Og’s edged out a well earned victory against the County Derry Side.

Our Second game was against the hosts Cuchullianns and this was an exciting game with both teams having the lead but the Og’s dug out a great victory when a very late goal give us a 2 point victory.

Our next opponent was a classy Eoghan Ruadh side from Dungannon. This side have gone on an incredible run and have already won 6 notable tournaments already this year. Our task was made harder when Sean was unable to play as he took an knock in the previous game and Shane took a knock to the wrist in this game. Several personnel changes were made to the team but unfortunately our opponents came away with a victory

Our final game was against Sean Treacys Lurgan a team who had previously travelled to Musgrave for a challenge game. The game itself was close but the Og’s got their third victory on the day. With 3 Wins and 1 loss the Og’s were graded in the Cup competition which was a credit to their performances against such quality opposition. As the number of teams competing was odd, Eoghan Ruadh got a bye straight into the Cup Final with the Og’s and our hosts competing for the other Final space. Sean Treacys and Kevin Lynchs would meet in the shield final.

Our Semi final against Cuchullainns was very similar to the previous game between the two sides. Thankfully both Shane and Sean had recovered from their knocks and we were able to revert to our original starting 13. At the end of the first half we were behind by a point and the players were encouraged to get tighter to their opponents and the place in the final would be ours. The Og’s did in turn start the second half brighter and got an equalising point score. At this time we hoped to push on for the victory but unfortunately we found a full back and goalkeeper in scintillating form although at times we should have went for points instead of goals. This give our opponents confidence in the game and they got a goal followed by a point to take the victory 1:2 to 0:1 and the Og’s were eliminated from the competition.

In the Shield Final there was a narrow victory for Sean Treacys and Eoghan Ruadh retained the Cup for another year after a one point victory against Cuchullianns who had been leading the majority of the game.

Thanks

I would like to thank Eugene for the invite to this quality tournament which provided hurling at the highest level. Thanks also for the drinks and food for parents, mentors and players. Thanks to our players parents who again travelled at such short notice and give up their Saturday to help promote our hurling team. Finally well done to our hurlers who competed against and beat some of the best hurling teams in Ulster
