Near neighbours Bredagh Harps made the short trip to Deramore to play Naomh Brid reserves last Thursday night in a challenge game. In a very evenly contested match the home team came away with a narrow one point victory. Highlights of the first half included a “Kevin Moran” like run from the half back line from newcomer Aidan Christie that culminated in a rasping shot to the net. However, John Mackle was required to pull off three fine saves in the first half to keep the deficit to one point at the break. The imperious Gareth Macklin at full back was also a busy man during the opening half.

The second half saw some fresh legs introduced and this brought immediate results as St Brigid’s streaked ahead after an exquisite finish from Kevin Finnegan to the net following a pinpoint pass from the industrious Paul McCrudden. Veteran goal keeper Mackle was called upon to pull off a penalty save to secure a one-point victory. On an evening when the Mackle twins Ryan and Ciaran starred outfield and their father John shone in nets, stand-in manager Conway was thankful that St Brigid’s were blessed to have such a close strong family trio to call upon.

Best of luck to Bredagh in their endeavours to secure promotion for the second year in a row.
