Congratulations to the seniors who won the Lamh Dhearg seven-a-side tournament on Sunday evening, defeating O’Donovan Rossa in the final on a scoreline of 4:5 to 1:4.
Chris McCann knocked over two points to get the ball rolling for St. Brigid’s, then two goals in quick succession from Deaghlan O’Hagan and Benny Reilly saw Naomh Brid take an early lead. Rossa struck back with a goal and two points, Naomh Brid finished the half with three points to establish a 2:5 to 1:2 lead at the break.
Benny Reilly finished the game as a contest with two goals in the second half. This celebrated the return to form after an injury spell. The Shaw’s Road men could only muster two points in the second half. The final score of 4:5 to 1:4 was a fair reflection of the difference between the two sides.
The only sour note was an injury to Barry McMahon. The panel over the two nights was Chris McCann, Deaghlan O’Hagan, Barry McMahon, John McGuckian, Dara Edwards, James Loughrey, Joe McKeever, Andrew Brennan,Tim McCrudden, Mark Sweeney,Benny Reilly and Michael Donnelly.
St. Brigid’s were undefeated on Friday night after beating Lamh Dhearg A 7:3 to 1:6 in the first game, then Rossa 3:6 to 2:4 and finally Lamh Dhearg B 4:4 to 0:4.
The victory was the perfect tonic in advance of the vital league game against Glenravel on Wednesday night. when a big home support is expected. Throw-in 8.15pm.
