The Division 1 team lost their penultimate home game at Musgrave on Sunday when Moneyglass provided the opposition. Despite a bright start prompted by Fermanagh trialist Niall Cunningham, who showed well and scored three points (two from frees), a cruical goal chance went a-begging when a “one on one” by Cormac McGrady gave a lifeline to the visitors. The next 15 minutes saw 1-3 scored by the visitors without reply in a purple patch. A second goal chance by Rory O’Neill brought a save from close range and the 1-4 to 0-5 score at the break in favour of the visitors was slightly against the run of play.

Playing with the aid of an increasing breeze the vistors scored on the resumption to make it a three point game. The turning point came with 16 minutes to go when the sending off in quick succession of two Moneyglass players should have turned the tables in favour of the hosts. Instead Moneyglass won the first two balls and scored a goal and a point. They tagged on some fine further points from distance and wisely retreated into defence to stop any goals when St Brigid’s got the ball. The elusive goal failed to come, depite some sustained pressure, Sherry had a fine shot from close range well saved and Connolly went wide on two occasions. Overall with over a dozen first team panel players missing, it was a case of naievity when two men up, and a failure to convert from close range, that ultimately cost the home side at least a share of the spoils against the men from the river Bann. However it was good to see Aidan Christie back from his honeymoon. Well done to AIDAN!. Likewise it was great to see a return from a long injury for Feargal Sherry, who had a great first half.
