The senior hurlers played an away fixture against Latharna Og (Larne) on Sunday. The match was played in beautiful sunny conditions and after an encouraging start, St. Brigid’s went in at half time, two points in arrears, with Justin McCormack nicking in to steal goal after good work from Barry Gormley. A number of goal and point chances were missed and St. Brigid’s will need to improve on this front.

The second half started with a bang with Latharna Og scoring a goal only for Eoghan McKenna to respond immediately with a goal at the other end. An individual point from the same player had the teams neck and neck. Paul McCrudden after a wonderful run was through on goal only to see his effort denied by the stout frame of their goalkeeper. Had St. Brigid’s scored they would have been in the lead and would have been difficult to stop. However, Latharna Og responded magnificently with some excellent scores from outfield and two goals in the last minutes of the game saw them safely through.

St. Brigid’s should be very proud of their performance. A number of players stood out in particular the McIlhattons and Steven Kennedy. The full back line was tight and yielded little. Up front Eoghan McKenna played well through out the match. Conditions were hot and the last ten minutes of each half saw St. Brigid’s wilt in comparison to their opponents.

St. Brigid’s next match is against Davits. The match is at Harlequins and commences at 6.45pm on Wednesday 30th April. Training continues each Friday at Harlequins at 7pm for the senior hurlers.
