Mitchell’s 1.5 Saint Brigid’s II 0.118
This was a game that Naomh Brid needed to win to keep in contention in Division 5. Despite the scoreline, the Malone Gaels made hard work of this one, particularly in the first half.
O’Neill, King and McCrudden (yes Keelan, a little heavier than last year) all pointed before Mitchell’s opened their account with a fine effort from play.
Naomh Brid struggled to get supremacy in the middle and overplayed on their way out of defence. Up front passes went astray and so the men in blue wasted many good chances.
Mitchell’s added another from a free before Chris Quinn and Keelan McCrudden again from play, stretched St Brigid’s lead.
Back came Mitchell’s with two unanswered points to leave just two between the teams.
Jimmy King added another from play and a long effort from R O’Neill bounced over the bar (more on this later). Chris Turbitt added a fine point after good build up.
A Mitchell’s goal from a high ball to the full forward in the square brought it back to a minimum.
Michael McLaughlin made a fine point from distance and O’Neill added a further minor from a free to cancel out a converted free from Mitchell’s.

Kevin Finnegan spotted a technical irregularity at half time. The ball is too Hard! But alas in the absence of appropriate tools the Naomh Brid men had to play on.
The first score of the second half came after many spurned goal chances with O’Neill, Finnegan, McCrudden and King all keen to suggest that points were more difficult to take on these occasions but the magnetism of the corner flag is amazing. O’Neill with a well taken effort.
Back to the game. Mark Kelly anchored the defence and the Mitchell’s team was held scoreless for the second period.
O’Neill and King shared the remaining scores of the second half to leave it comfortable at the end. O’Neill’s converted 45 a fine score.
Despite an ankle injury O’Neill led the way for Naomh Brid. Kevin Finnegan tried hard as did King and Mc Crudden. Chris Quinn covered a lot of ground. The defence was strong with Mark Kelly leading the way.
A quick word for Conor McHendry in nets. SPEED!
