Greg Blaney’s charges got their season under way today with a challenge match against Loughinisland on a beautiful afternoon at the Dub. The result – a two point defeat for the record – was largely irrelevant as match practice was the primary objective ahead of league action in a few weeks’ time. With three 20 minute periods played, there was ample opportunity for the squad minus four county men to get a decent run out. Some of the younger players who caught the eye were Ronan McGrady, Ben and Matt Kelly, and Rory Flanagan. FT: Naomh Brid 1-12 Loughinisland 1-14
