Congratulations to the u12 football squad who won the Shield competition in the prestigious Glenavy tournament today.
With four victories in five games the Malone Road lads were deserving victors on the day. Despite an early set back with a narrow 2 point defeat to Aldergrove in their opening game the lads got into their stride with victories over St Patricks Lisburn and St James Aldergrove. Unfortunately the team missed out in qualifying for the Cup competition on score difference.
However the strength of the group was evident with a team from the group participating in all three finals – Aghagallon winning the Plate, St Brigids the Shield and Aldergove losing out to a strong Clann Eireann in Cup final.
After progressing from the league stage, the team beat a physically strong Glenavy A side in the semi by 6 points. In the final the lads were pitted against neighbours Bregdagh who defeated St Endas in their semi.
The St Brigids lads led a very close encounter from the opening minutes, eventually running out deserved two point winners.
Well done to the squad on the day – Peter King, Brian McCarthy, Oran Boyle, John Toner, Ethan Carleton, Tom Dunford, Cormac Barr, Peter Henvey, Steven Quinn, Rory Brolly, Conor MacAllister, Patrick McCann, Phelim Lennon, Eoin McCann, Eunan Carlin, Callum Copeland
Many thanks to the Glenavy club for a great day out which was very well organised.
