UNDER 9’s SELECT @ ST. PAUL’S HOLYWOOD
ON 24 OCTOBER 2010
PANEL: Eoin Brown, Paul Bradley, Patrick McKay, Cian McDonnell, Ryan Austin, Callum Webb, James McKenna, Thomas McCarney, Ben Doherty and Conor Slevin
An Under 9 Select from St Brigids travelled to St Paul’s Holywood on Sunday 24 October 2010. On taking the field it was clear that the older St Paul’s Under 10 outfit were physically stronger but the St Brigids’ lads adapted quickly to deal with this by moving the ball rapidly.
In an excellent game of football both sides competed well. Ryan Austin in goal for St Brigid’s proved solid and dependable under the high ball and his strong kick outs alleviated pressure in the defence. Good defending from Ben Doherty, James McKenna and Thomas McCarney meant that St Paul’s consistently had to shoot from distance and managed only one goal in three periods of play. At mid field Callum Webb, Eoin Brown and Paul Bradley worked very hard against the physically larger St Pauls’ boys. Paul Bradley’s tally of two goals and three points for the match was a notable feature. In the forward line, Cian McDonnell, Conor Slevin and Patrick McKay made the most of every opportunity with McKay achieving a fantastic point from a side line ball.
All round, a very strong performance from these young St Brigids’ boys.
