St Brigids U12 ladies went to the Glenravel blitz last Saturday and took their place among the other young Gaels from eight other clubs.
Our early start in the Antrim glens got under way with our first game at 10am against St Galls also in our group were St Comgalls, Bredagh A and Carryduff.
The girls as usual started slowly but soon got into there stride with great work being done in each sector of the pitch.
We qualified for the shield competition and came up against Glenariffe in the semi final. By now the girls were in the groove and ready to face any team. We duly beat them and marched into the final against Bredagh.
The girls played well in the final against a good Bredagh side and with spirited defending, stayed far enough in front to avoid too many frayed nerves on the side lines. It sounds a cliché but each of the girls played an important part in this victory. We have our terrific keeper Caoimhe who was protected by our rock solid back line of Carla, Cerys, Michelle[Capt], Naomh Creen. Ar Lar na pairc we had Ellie and the irrepressible Anna Connolly. Up front Catherine Hamill, Eimhear, Peaches, Rebecca, and Caitlin Mooney all contributed to the day’s final tally of points and goals and kept the scoreboard ticking over. Squad and mentors alike were delighted with the team’s performance and victory in the Shield in this most enjoyable blitz.
The girls are becoming shield specialists and with only 3 of the 12 girls not eligible to play at this age group next year the future looks good.
Thanks to the parents who helped ferry the kids up to the Glenravel venue and for their help and support on the day. Congratulations to Glenravel on running a great competition. We were delighted to be invited and a big thanks for their hospitality.
Well done Big Paul and the girls!
