St Brigid’s u12 footballers safely progressed through the first round of the O’Donnell cup on Saturday 11th Sept. Playing a spirited St Malachy’s side, St Brigid’s managed an impressive 19 scores over the course of the match. At midfield, Peter Webb and James Smith won the lions share of possession and repeatedly set up the St Brigid’s forwards. In attack, Gerard Kervick and Patrick Finnegan combined well – with both forwards getting on the end of some fine scores. In all, 9 different St Brigid’s players got on the score sheet. This included 2 excellent second half goals – a long range shot from Frank McCormack and a well finished fist-in from John Toner on the back of a clever cross field pass from Patrick Finnegan.
In defence, Joseph Finnegan put in a towering performance – reading the game superbly to break up St Malachy’s attacks and brilliantly distributing the ball to launch the next St Brigid’s team move. In defence, Frank McCormack, Paul Storrs and Daire McGarvey also shone.
