A Peter Canavan managed Ballygawley side travelled to south Belfast on Sunday morning to play a challenge game against St Brigid’s. Both teams fielded senior panelists who did not play in their last league games. The match was played under the new rules and “reffed” by Eamann McMenamin. The hosts started well with Chris McCann posing a threat in the St Brigid’s attack. He was able assisted by Cormac McGrady, and Andy Morrow was on hand to convert early free kicks.
The visitors did finish strongly the opening half as “Daisy” McDermott and the O’Donnell bros were influential in pulling the Tyrone men level at the break.
The second half saw the home side make some more changes and the game was nip and tuck until the last ten minutes when Eirigal pulled ahead due to some fine scores by Harte. The visitors ran out victors 16 points to 11.
This was a useful run out for the Malone Road men. Promising displays from Jack Dowling, Paddy O’Driscoll, Colly Moane and Cormac McGrady gave food for thought for the management trio.
