St. Brigid’s Ladies return to Junior Championship Final

After failing to play in last years final, the St. Brigids’ girls have over come their acute disappointment and frustration to make a return to Casement Park for the 2009 Junior final on Thursday, 3rd September at 6.30pm.

The Senior Ladies, who have trained extremely hard all year are under no illusions about the task they face in taking on a hotly fancied Tir Na nOg side on Thursday.

St. Brigids’ beat Lamh Dhearg on Sunday 30th August in a sporting encounter. After getting off to a slow start Rose Mc Keogh settled the teams’ nerves with an excellently taken goal and point and continued to impress throughout. The strong duo of Ciara Loughran and the brave Ellen Mc Grath controlled midfield whilst also contributing two goals to the final score. The speedy Aisling Murray and persistent threat of Sophie Curran combined with great running from Aoibhe Mc Cann provided a great defensive wall, which the Lamh Dhearg ladies found extremely difficult to cross. Orla Montague maintained the pressure at half forward and partnered well with both the midfield and full forward line, where her sister Aoife Montague and Anna Finnegan extended the gap with some nicely taken points.  The St Brigid’s girls superior fitness came to the fore as they ran out winners with the final score reading 9-14 to 0-1.

The entire panel is entirely focused on the up and coming final and will look for inspiration from county player Catherine Mullan, who played a key role in Antrim’s semi final win over Derry to reach the All Ireland Junior final in Croke Park.

Best of luck to St. Brigids Ladies in Casement Park.
