On Sunday 8th June the Antrim U14 girls travelled to Co. Donegal to continue their titanic struggle with Fermanagh. Having beaten Fermanagh by a single point in the early rounds and then having played out a draw in the final, this was going to be nothing other than another keenly fought contest. And so it turned out to be. Naomh Brid Girls – Niamh McCann, Aimee Duffy, Bronagh King, Abigail Carleton, Club Captain Cliodhna McGrady, Niamh Dunford and Julia Boyle all gave outstanding performances over the 2 games to ensure that Antrim Picked up the title.
As with the previous games the teams turned at half time all level. 0-5 : 1.2. In the second half Antrim moved 4 points in front only to be faced with an impressive Fermanagh attack that secured a goal for the Erne County. Antrim rallied again and points were exchanged including a crucial score from Abi carleton. In the final 5 minutes Antrim defence stood their ground with some incredible ‘blocking’, that would grace any County team – Boys or Girls, and determined tackling to bring the trophy back Antrim.
Final Score Antrim 1-9 Fermanagh 2-5
This now completes the ‘ Hat Trick’ of ulster titles for Antrim, having already captured the Minor and U16 trophies.
Well Done and congratulations to All the Girls!
