Fresh off the back of victory over Warrenpoint, the senior hurlers travelled to Creggan for their first league game of the season. The team had no problem in fielding, with five substitutes available, but from the throw-in St Brigid’s came under sustained pressure with the back and half-back line being worked endlessly. Creggan took the early advantage and went ahead by seven points before Oggy pointed from just inside his own half. Overall, though, in the first half the midfield found it hard to gain possession, effectively starving the forward lines of any realistic scoring opportunities and limiting the away side’s chances of scoring. Approaching the end of the half Creggan managed to score two goals and convert a somewhat dubious penalty, widening the score even further. The story of the first half was mirrored in the second with Creggan playing some excellent hurling and putting more points on the board. However, St Brigid’s continued to scrape away at the home side’s defence and had some good patches of play when they came into the game culminating in a goal from a well-taken free by Gabriel. This was not enough though as Creggan ran out 4-16 to 1-8 winners, condemning St. Brigid’s to their first defeat of the season. Ardoyne Kickhams are up next for the Musgrave Park side, and coach Justin McCormick will be hoping for a better performance.

Final score: Creggan 6-10 St Brigid’s 1-8
