It has been a good week for St Brigid’s players at schools/colleges level, with a number of club players featuring in successes for their institutions.
This week, we had Maeve Blaney helping Our Lady and St Patrick’s College, Knock reach the Ulster ‘B’ final against St Mary’s Magherafelt (the game was due to be played on Friday, but will now most likely be played on Monday 26th or Tuesday 27th February, keep an eye on St Pat’s and St Mary’s Twitter accounts for an announcement). OLSPCK beat St Pius X by a great score of 6-12 to 1-5 in the semi-final on Wednesday.
Another three club members then played for Rathmore as they claimed the (Yr 11) Ulster ‘C’ hurling championship in the form of the Noone Cup: Brian McGurk, Chris Lundy and Reuben Carleton. A fine win for the college and great to see the three lads involved.
Earlier in the week, senior footballer Mikey Cummings scored 1-1 for Queen’s University as they defeated UCC in the quarter-final of the Intermediate Championship on a scoreline of 5-13 to 1-10.
Another fixture to look out for this coming week is OLSPC, Knock’s MacLarnon Cup 1/4 final against Holy Trinity, Cookstown this Tuesday (venue tbc) at 2pm. Several St Brigid’s players will feature: Peter King, Tom Dunford, John Morgan, John Toner, Calum Webb and Ruairi McDonnell (Oran Boyle is suspended for this game but will hope to return to captain the side in the final should they prevail).
