Over a 9 week period our U14 girls threw their hat into the ring against the best Antrim has at the pre season BCSDN Winter League tournament at the Cliftonville Road 3G pitches.
During the group stages Naomh Brid faced Moneyglass, St Galls and Ardoyne and at the end of 4 weeks we ended up on top spot which gave us the opportunity to test our skills in the Cup Competition against St Enda’s, Sarsfields, Creggan and our near neighbours Bredagh. Had it not been for an unfortunate injury to one of our midfielders against St Enda’s we would certainly have gone into the final day in top position.
In our semi final game against Sarsfields our girls displayed possibly their best performance of the tournament against an array of county footballers and came out 6 point victors with an exhibition of football. After the game the Sarsfields / Antrim U14 coach Déaglán Coleman came over and complimented the standard of football produced. Unfortunately in the final our girls were unable to get back up to the same level of intensity against the stronger Naomh éanna opponents and we finished runners up on the day.
Afterwards, Mary Mitchell was presented with the Naomh Brid Star Player award by BCSDN coaches who organised this very successful tournament.
Many thanks to Niall Mitchell, Eamonn Leonard, Ciaran McCann, Stephen Austin, Catherine Higgins & Noreen Courtney for their help to make this such an enjoyable and successful tournament for the girls – a sign that Naomh Brid is alive and well for 2017!!
