After a fairly one sided match tonight against a depleted St Enda’s, St Brigid’s Senior Ladies now sit top of division 1! Not bad for an Intermediate team who struggled last year to get players on the park, despite our championship win.
As yet, the County Antrim website has not caught up with our success but I’m sure this is only an administrative blip!
With St Enda’s arriving at Musgrave with a reduced panel, we were entitled to play 15 players against them but we endeavour always to play in the fairest and most respectful of fashions, so 13 players turned out against the Glengormley girls with no less determination than the full squad would muster.
We quickly established a lead with confident and assured scoring coming from midfield, half forward and full forward lines and in reality, the game was over by half time, however, always keen to offer the younger and less experienced players a chance, Senior Manager Barry Mulligan threw on some of the 16s panel who more than held there own and delivered as many scores as their senior counterparts did in the first period.
Even with the certainty of the result, credit is due to St Enda’s who fought to the final whistle and gave a good account of themselves, even when the result was working against them. Great to see 2 teams play the game in such a fair and competitive way, giving respect to players and officials alike.
Thanks to Fionuala Murphy from St Gall’s whose refereeing let the game flow fairly and fluidly and reflected the excellent discipline shown from both squads. Final score, St Brigid’s 8.8 v 0.4 St Enda’s.
Next up is the powerhouse of St Ergnatt’s, Moneyglass who will be looking to dislodge us from our (hopefully soon to be visible) league summit! NBA!
