Tonight’s semi-final game against Moneyglass at Musgrave was as thrilling as it was frustrating, as time and time again, St Brigid’s flexed their muscles and edged ahead, only to allow the visitors to come back at them.
It wasn’t always pretty to watch, but it was end to end, as both forward lines traded points, with no clear leader emerging until the close of the first half, when our battling ladies delivered two goals to give us a 6 point lead.
The second half started strongly for Brigid’s and we were soon 11 points in front with only a requirement to shore up and close out the game. But…..nobody told the country girls that, as they chipped away at the deficit, aided by some loose midfield play from the hosts and a lack of finishing up front from our forwards.
St Brigid’s clung on 4-11 to 4-9 to reach the Antrim Intermediate final on August 30th at Sarsfields where, depending on the result of the Moneyglass vs St John’s match now pending, could see us again meet country opposition or local rivals.
Much work to be done, but what mattered was the result. Well done girls and let’s learn that sometimes it’s too easy to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory! But not this time……roll on the 30th, where we go after our first senior silverware for some time! NBA.
