Our u14 Ladies, bolstered with 12’s and 16’s put on a fabulous display of football in a sun drenched Bettystown, Co. Meath this afternoon as St Colmcille’s u16’s hosted us for an invitational game.

Despite its ‘friendly’ billing, both sides played ‘full on football’ in a competitive and captivating game which saw St Brigid’s emerge with a 3 point victory.

The standard of play from both teams was extremely high and tackling was uncompromising but never cynical. It is hard to pick out any individual as every player contributed fully and battled for every ball, with some sublime scores and passages of play coming from both sides.

The game was ‘nip and tuck’ throughout and was impossible to call until the final whistle.

All the crowd and mentors on both sides were really impressed by what they saw today and the exemplary behaviour and respect from all on and off the field is a great reflection on the players from both North and South.

St Colmcille’s provided a lovely lunch for all the visitors and our Captain for the day, Emma Ferran presented our host’ Captain with a signed club jersey which was gratefully received.

We hope to repay St Colmcille’s hospitality later in the year and bring them up to Belfast for a second leg.

After all their hard work, the girls were rewarded with a stint on the beautiful beach at Bettystown where tired muscles and sore legs were soothed in the cool surf!

All in all, a brilliant day, with an attitude and performance that has won St Brigid’s many new fans and bolstered their reputation both on and off the field.
