The U12 boys made history tonight at Musgrave as both panels made it through to the Final of O’Donnell Cup and Shield.
Both sides were up against Shaw’s Road opposition, with the Cup side facing a tough well drilled Rossa side. This game was nip and tuck, with Rossa landing the first scores in the game, with early goals and well taken points. The Brigids lads remained calm and picked off some great points, and at half time the scores were level.
Second half started in a similar fashion, with again Rossa scoring first in the half. Then the South Belfast lads dug in and started taking control of the game. A flurry of goals put them in front and they held out to claim their place in the final.
The shield side fresh from their win over Davitts in the earlier round were aiming for their second final in a role were up against Rossa’s neighbours Div 1 side St Pauls. Straight from the throw in they took the game to the hoops, with a couple of early goals which settled the nerves. A further three points and another goal meant the lads were well ahead at the break, with St Pauls only putting two points on the board.
The second half was a different story as St Pauls came right back into the game with two goals and two points. St Brigids were on the ropes as the opposition mounted wave upon wave of attacks. However the the game entering the last minutes, St Brigids managed to clear their lines and broke away to score an important goal. A couple of late points made the game safe.
A fantastic result for the club, congratulations to the whole panel and their management team.
The finals are on Sunday at McCrory Park first throw in at 1pm verses Ardoyne and cup at 2pm verses Sarsfields.
We hope to see a large crowd of supporters there.
