Congratulations to the senior men for reaching the semi-final of the All Ireland Junior 7’s.
On Saturday 20th September St Brigid’s seniors participated in the All Ireland 7’s tournament, hosted by St Jude’s Dublin. Declan Morgan set off early with his panel of 10 players keen to do their best. The team performed extremely well and were unfortunate not to have been in the final, loosing the semi-final by a single point after having been 8 points up at the interval.
The first game saw Leitrim Gales dispatched with a scoreline of Leitrom 0-6 St Brigid’s 3-7 Teconnaught from Down were next up and dealt a similar blow 1-3 to St Brigid’s 3-6. Confidence was growing that the team could progress in the competition and the final group game was against Kill Shamrocks from Cavan, who were defeated 1-5 to a very impressive St Brigid’s tally of 4-11.
So it was into the quarter-finals against the men from the Mournes – Dundrum. The team were on fire and racked up a very convincing passage to the semi-finals by beating Dundrum 0-5 to St Brigids 3-11.
Keel from Kerry were the semi-final opponents and it seemed like a place in the final was on the cards as at half time St Brigid’s had a commanding 8 points lead. However with a few lapses in defence the game went to the Kerry men by a single point St Brigid’s 2-7 Keel 3-5. Keel lost the final by only three points to fellow county men Kenmare.
Still it was a great day for the club and Declan Morgan no doubt is already planning to try and get his hands on the trophy next year.
