U12 Challenge game v Ruairi Og’s

Venue : Cushendall

Date: 31st August 2014

With the Nipper Quinn Championship on the horizon a couple of challenge games against high quality opposition have been arranged with the first of these games being against North Antrim side Ruairi Og’s of Cushendall.

Unfortunately we were only able to line out 12 players so the game was played using the smaller goals and lined out pitch. Although this was our first run out since the league had finished we stormed to an early 4 point to nil lead with excellent scores from Brendan, Niall and Sean. Brendan, Diarmaid and Sean seemed to be bossing the midfield section. Our usual back line of Gerard and Shane were helped by Luke and Tiorealach and in the first 15 minutes they had contained their markers brilliantly. Our forwards during the game were Jack D and Niall at half forward with Dylan and Pearse occupying our full forward berths.

Our opponents then started to click into gear and their link up play from backs through mid to their forwards at times was excellent and they got some goals and points to take a lead into half time.

In the second half our numbers were boosted by 3 Ruairi Og players and we were able to play 15 a side but the intensity we showed in the first half was missing. We did get several more scores from Niall and Sean but Joe in our nets was the busier keeper and our opponents ran out easy winners.

Thanks

I would like to thank JJ for the invite and the drinks and snacks for our players after the game and I wish them the best of luck in their forthcoming North Antrim Championship Final. Hopefully we can arrange a re-match in the near future. Thanks to Gerard and both Johns for their help with the team and to our parents for travelling to the picturesque venue.
