The U14 Boys created a bit of history at the weekend as the club competed for the first time at the boys Féile Peil na nÓg, in Trim, County Meath, at the regional finals representing Antrim.
The Club had been grouped together with Maynooth (Kildare), Portarlington (Laois) and Baltingglass (Wicklow) in Group 1. Whilst Carrigaline (Cork), Swatragh, Burren and Caven Gaels battled it out in group 2.
The date of the competition severely effected the availability of the squad playing in the tournament, and with only 16 U14s and and one U12 travelling to Meath it was always going to be a challenge to compete against the cream of U14 football from across the country.
Despite the limited numbers and a playing squad with a young profile, the boys performed extremely well. They battled through their three games, playing some great football and taking some great scores. One of the most pleasing part of the performances, was the encouragement the senior lads gave to their younger team mates during the games, all positive, showing great maturity on their part.
After being hosted by Meath County board at the fantastic Trim GAA Clubhouse, the lads made their way back to base. There was no silverware taken home, however the lads can rightfully claim their place in the history books.
