St Brigids cruised through their quarter-final match on Monday 23rd June against Ahoghill.

The team performance was very impressive, with every player including all reserves dominating their opponent.  All were up for the game and it was one of those nights when everything clicked.

It was described like turning on a tap. Initially there was a little splutter but then it flowed at full force until the end. Although Ahoghill had a very impressive win over Glenravel in their preliminary game, they weren’t given a chance to settle into the game. It was mid-way through the first half that they registered their first point, by which time St Brigid’s had already 1-8 on the board. Brendan Mc Donald scored the goal and points came from David Brennan (0-3), Chris Quinn  & Chris Mc Cann(0-2) and Niall Mc Donald (0-1).

By half-time St Brigid’s had stretched the lead 1-13 to 0-4, thanks to further scores from Chris Quinn & Niall Mc Donald (0-2) plus Chris Mc Cann (0-1)

The call at half-time was “remember the Gort na Mona game”, only a few weeks earlier. In that game there were 15 minutes left, St Brigid’s had a 10 point lead yet lost the game. There was not going to be a repeat. Management demanded that the team play at full pace, right to the final whistle. And that’s exactly what they did.

It was simply one way traffic in the second half. Ahoghill was held to a single point, while St Brigid’s racked up a further 4-11.

Final score St Brigid’s 5-24 Ahoghill 0-5. There were no less than 11 different players who had contributed to the tally of scores.

Fergal Sherry, Clom Moane, Joe Devenny, Andy Brennan (0-1)

Niall George (0-2)

Dee Brennan, Niall Mc Doanld (0-3)

Chris Quinn (0-4)

Conor Mackle (1-2)

Chris Mc Cann (1-5)

Brendan Mc Donald (3-1)

Semi-final up next but not sure against who or when.
