The U12 Division 1 team maintained its 100% record on Friday night by grinding out a narrow 5 point win away to St Galls. This was always going to be a difficult game at Milltown and from the throw-in the home team started strongly by taking control at midfield. Our forward line, which has been free-scoring so far this season, found very little time or space on the ball, until Liam Finnegan finished a fine move to the net. St Galls took advantage of slack Brigids’ marking with 2 good goals midway through the half and heading towards half-time St Galls had edged in front by a point, until Harry O’Connor surged forward to split the posts with a fine equaliser.

A few positional changes were made at the break to tighten things up, with Ronan Boyle moving out to midfield to pick up St Galls’ key midfielder. The second half remained a nervy affair with our boys struggling to find any rhythm and St Galls edged ahead again. Ronan Agnew and Reuben Carleton began to assert some authority in defence and at last the boys dug deep to draw level. Rory Moore fielded Cathal Maguire’s long pass and blasted over with his left foot to put the boys in front with 5 minutes to go. Donal Bradley and Toirealach Brolly secured the win with composed late scores. Although this was a disappointing performance the lads showed great character to fight back against a determined St Galls team.
