U12 Hurling League v Saint Galls

Venue: Milltown Pitch

Date: 2nd June 2014
Thanks to Darren for compiling the report
Brid Og’s fourth game was an away trip against current Nipper Quinn A champions Saint Galls and as both teams were still both unbeaten something had to give.

The game started in the worst possible way when our opponents scored a goal with only minutes on the clock and they added to their tally with a quick point as well. After a couple of quick tactical changes we started to relax into the game and our clean possession of the sliotar began to increase and we started to put pressure on their back-line. In one of the best moves of the game our link up play from Brendan, Connla and Sean found young Niall in space and he had the confidence to round the keeper and get our first goal. Pressure on the poc out meant we got our second score, a point from Sean.

In the second half the intensity from both teams was increased and to be honest it was a great game which was enjoyed by the sizeable crowd on the sidelines. Both teams traded the lead with each other but with seconds to go, scores from Sean ( 2 goals) and Connla (1 goal and 1 point) had us in a winning position with the score line of Brid Og 4:2, Saint Galls 3:3. Unfortunately there was just enough time for Saint Galls to score another major and take the victory 4:3 to 4:2.

At the final whistle the players were all devastated as they had came so close to the victory against a very skilful St Galls team. I would like to congratulate Joe who put in a tremendous shift in goals and saved us on several occasions. He was also protected brilliantly by our full and half backs Connla, Dylan, Fintan, Gerard, Oisin, Paudraig, and Shane. Twins Brendan and Sean were our dynamos in midfield who chased after the sliotar relentlessly. Our forward lines of Andrew, Dara, Diarmaid, Jack C, Jack D, Luke, Niall, Pearse also worked tirelessly for the team and the final score tally does not include the 3 or 4 times we hit the side netting or the several frees that were called wide.

Thanks

I would like to thank Gerard, John D and John R for helping with the team. Thanks to our parental support and I hope they enjoyed the spectacle even in defeat from the sidelines. Final well done to our players as I believe this was their best performance of the year to date even if ultimately it ended in defeat. I would also like to thank Owen for his support from the sideline and hopefully he will enjoy some game time in the future matches.
