Brid Og 2:6

Gort Na Mona 1:2

Date: 28th April 2014

Venue: Musgrave

Brid Og started their U12 league campaign against Gort Na Mona at Musgrave and it was great to see the 20 players who have trained during the winter available for the game.

The game itself was played in perfect conditions and the format for the league match was 13 a side with a shortened pitch and smaller goals although both teams agreed to field 14 players for this game.

As with the Ballycastle game, the day before, the Og’s started very lively with Andrew getting a goal and Brendan getting a point from distance but unfortunately the Gorts replied with a goal of their own. Connla added another point to our tally and then Sean went on a personal crusade scoring a total of 1 goal and 4 points. Our opponents could only score another 2 points and the Ogs came away with a 2:6 to 1:2 victory.

Although at times our back lines of Fintan, Gerard, Joe, JP, Nathan and Shane were under pressure they played brilliantly and cleared their lines with Shane pulling off a fantastic save late in the game when he replaced Nathan in nets.

Our forward lines were rotated due to substitutions but Andrew, Brendan, Diarmaid, Dylan, Jack C, Jack D, Luke,Martin, Oisin and Padraig with our youngest players Niall and Pearse also getting a run out in the forward lines.

It was great to see the large number of players for our first league game and hopefully this will continue through the whole league campaign. Thanks to Oliver for refereeing the game and to John and Gerard  for helping with the team. As usual we have a large vocal support from the sidelines which I am sure spurred the team on during difficult moments during the game.

As well as the league games we are also trying to organise some challenge games against North / South West Antrim teams and Derry sides as well.
