On Sunday 6 April St Brigid’s u10s were the only Belfast team to field two teams in the Falls Park Go Games tournament. One team played Patrick Sarsfield’s and Cardinal O’Donnell’s with all the boys showing great attitude and some excellent performances, despite the heavy ground underfoot and windy conditions. The players were able to demonstrate the new skills learned during the indoor training and effectively tackled and distributed the ball throughout the matches.
Team: Colm Finegan; Daniel McAteer; Owen McCarney; Brendan Delaney; Shane Graham; Thomas Graham; Thomas Graham; Thomas McKenna; Ronan McAree; Liam Magee; Samir O’Hare; Rory Birt; Jamie Conway; Mark Cullinan; Dara McKay
The other team played three matches against a combined Eire Og & St John’s team, St Gall’s and Gort na Mona. The first of these games, against eleven boys who were playing together for the first time, was an easy opener for the boys who dominated the play. However, in the second match against St Gall’s the football was fast paced and each score hard-fought. The last of the three matches against Gort na Mona saw the worst of the wind and rain during the morning, but some of the best play from the boys.
Team: Conor Brown; Eoin O’Mainnin; James Gorman; Jack Toner; Joseph O’Sullivan; Fintan Cleary; Donal Hanna; Brian McGurk; James Kilpatrick; Aodhan McNicholl; Niall Duffy; Niall Finegan
Thanks to the teams and mentors with whom the u10s had five fantastic games, played in a great positive atmosphere; and in the true spirit of Go Games where fun, friendship, fair play and achievement was had by all. It was also a family event for the u10s, where the cousins Thomas and Shane Graham played in the matches against Sarsfield’s and O’Donnell’s; and, the brothers Colm and Niall Finegan played for each team.
