The St. Brigid’s Division One Under 12 Boys had their final league match last Friday night, 31 August 2012 against Rossa at Musgrave.  In a competitive match before an enthusiastic gathering of mentors and supporters, the St Brigid’s Boys racked up an impressive score of 6 – 9 to 1 – 6 in response.  Strong displays throughout the squad meant that Rossa were simply not able to get a toehold in the game.

The league campaign has seen boys from form 1 and from primary’s 6 and 7 working well together to put in a strong squad effort.  Since the league commenced last March large numbers from the Division One and Division Two squads have trained together on a Sunday and on a Tuesday night and have played their respective games on a Friday night through the season.

Stout defending has been a characteristic of the squad with defenders drawn from Brian McCarthy, Tom Dunford, Peter Heaney, Callum Webb, John Morgan, Shay Campbell, Ben Doherty, Patrick McCann, Eoin Mitchell, Daniel Foster, Ryan Austin and Zach Porter.

The normal mid field partnership of Cormac Barr and Peter King have shown great mobility and work rate throughout the course of this season and these boys have been particularly adept at putting early incisive ball into the forwards.

A forward line up drawn from Ben Power, Paul Bradley, Eoin Brown, Rory Brolly, Cian McDonnell, Conor Slevin, Patrick McKay, Ruari McDonald, Thomas McCarney, Tom Morrissey, Michael Canavan, Eunan Carlin and Jack McGurk have worked well throughout the season racking up big score lines in every match.

However, special mention must go to first choice goal keeper, Peter Henvey.  Peter’s focus and ability throughout the year in this key position has been a great foundation for the team.  His shot stopping prowess and his magnificent distribution of the ball has been a great contribution to the success of the team.

The team mentors would like to congratulate all the boys involved upon a splendid campaign.
