St Brigids U12 Div 2 team continued their excellent recent run with a fine 4.6 – 1.4 win over Lagmore Gaels at Musgrave last night. It was a great game played in the right spirit, and followed a victory by the Div 1 team over Rossa at the same location.

The early exchanges were even but when Lagmore got into a scoring position the tight marking St Brigids defence, led superbly by Ruairi McDonnell, James McKenna and Ryan Austin piled on the pressure and kept the visitors scoreless for the entire first half. In contrast St Brigids passed the ball fluidly, found their men and created numerous chances as the game went on. The midfield of Eoin Mitchell and Daniel Foster were supported by an advancing half back line of John Higgins, Zach Porter and the tireless Paddy McCann. They created chances for Michael Canavan, Conor Mulgrew and Patrick McKay, who between them formed a mobile and intelligent half forward line. The first score for the hosts was a Peter Heaney point swiftly followed by 1-1 from Eoin Mitchell. Conor Slevin was introduced midway through the first half and used the ball very well.

In the second half St Brigids increased the workload and the level of possession and that was quickly turned into scores with Paddy McAllister bagging a goal before a string of scores from Peter Henvey, Patrick McKay, Jack McGurk and McAllister coming alongside extra pressure form Ciaran Shearer who was now in the full forward line. Lagmore did gain something of a foothold in the game and registered 1-4 in the second period.

Thomas McCarney excelled in goals and helped marshall the defence which, along with the midfield, was the foundation this win was built on. New player Caleb Bowen impressed when introduced in the second half and the O’Hagan twins Conor and Patrick made big contributions also.
