Naomh Brid 2.7 St Paul’s Holywood 3.4
Naomh Brid U12’s wrapped up June with a closely fought and entertaining game with our Co Down friends St Paul’s Holywood. The match ended in a draw which was a fair result after some very hard work from both teams.
Although we were the away team St Brigids were first out of the blocks with a goal from Patrick McAllister. Patrick McKay followed up with a point shortly afterwards and the St Brigids team was quickly into stride and rewarded with a Cain McDonnell goal a few minutes later. The defence, marshalled superbly by Eoin Mitchell, Ryan Austin, Zach Porter and Daniel Foster were proving hard to break down and when called upon debut keeper Caleb Bowden made a few great stops. Ciaran Muldoon was catching some great high balls while his brother Joseph helped clear the ball.
St Paul’s got a foothold in the game before half time and with some nice scores the sides were level at the break.
In the second half all the early pressure came from the visitors with James McKenna, Conor Mulgrew and Jack McGurk making solid inroads into the home defence. Scores were proving hard to come by and too many shots drifted wide. In the forwards Conor Slevin, Ciaran Shearer and James McKenna were preventing the St Paul’s forward from getting the ball upfield and that pressure helped create scoring chances. Up stepped Hugo Leeson with a fine left foot point to start a run of three scores with Cain and Patrick Mckay also pitching in.
St Paul’s almost grabbed a goal but were denied last ditch style by Eoin Mitchell. Shortly after their efforts paid off and they got the goal which drew the game.
A great effort from the St Brigids lads and thanks to St Pauls for hosting a sporting game.
