O’Donnells 0.6 Naomh Brid 0.8

St Brigids U12 Div 2 football squad recorded their second successive league win last night, away to O’Donnells. Like last week the sun shone on a hot night and the lads held out for a narrow 2 point win.

In reality the margin should have been greater as the lions share of first half possession was squandered through too many wides. After dominating early on St Brigids opened the scoring with two quick points, the second from a free, before O’Donnells scored their first. Conor Mulgrew was put through with a fine pass from Paul Bradley and registered St Brigids third point.

At the other end the St Brigids defence was well marshalled by Ryan Austin, Patrick McCann, John Higgins and Eddie Devlin all of whom made good clearances and tackled well. Zach Porter and Callum Webb were linking the defence and attack well while in midfield Daniel Foster was busy at both ends of the field.

O’Donnells were strong up the middle and towards the end of the first half and they had drawn level at 4 points each.

Thomas McCarney went into goals at the start of the second period, with Peter Henvey moving up the pitch to full forward where he caught some high balls and scored 2 points. The hosts registered 2 second half points but it was the south Belfast side who ran out stronger and points from Paul Bradley and Henvey sealed a two point win. Importantly the two keepers, Henvey and McCarney kept O’Donnell’s from registering any goals and they also helped launch attacks with long, accurate kick outs.

In a great team effort Ruairi McDonnell, Ciaran and Joseph Muldoon, Donal Bradley, Joseph McCarney and Eunan Carlin all played a full part.
