Brid Og 10-9 Sarsfield’s 1-5
Brid Og got off to a flier in our first game of the U12 league campaign. Our opponents were Sarsfields and we scored an incredible 10 goals and 9 points. This was a fantastic performance and is testament to the hard work that the players have put in during the winter and challenge games in the run in to the league.
Brid Og started brilliantly with Tom, Ronan Crossan, Sean and Peter Henvey swarming like bees to get possession of the sliotar and they quickly getting control of the middle of the field. They were able to feed the forward line of Conor, Ciara, Eunan and Cain and this resulted in a couple of early goals and points that settled the team done.
Peter Heaney, Ronan Boyle, Mark and Rory were doing an excellent job in defence and they were clearing their lines with ease. It was great to see the amount of clean catches of the sliotar from these players and this made their job a lot easier. When Sarsfield’s did get in on our goal they found Brendan in excellent form in nets and he pulled off a “World Class” save which received applause not only from the Brid Og section but also the Sarsfield support as well.
John and Oliver brought on the changes with Diarmaid, Reuben, Andrew and Dylan being introduced. Sarsfields give the Og’s a wake-up call when they scored a goal just after half time and the players were reminded of the jobs they have to do. Again Brid Og began to dominate the match and it was great to see our young players Andrew, Conor, Dylan, Reuben, Sean and Ronan C scoring some great goals and points aided by our more experienced players Tom and the 2 Peters and Mark. Rory also mentioned to me about this great goal he scored from a free (very modest of you Rory). Our young backs Diarmaid, Ronan B as well as Ciara, Cian and Eunan all contributed to our great victory on the day.
At the final whistle Brid Og were very comfortable winners. Mentors John and Oliver congratulated the players on their performances and highlighted their improvements and willingness to try and catch the sliotar and lift the ball at pace. I would also like to mention that for many on the panel this was their second competitive game(s) over the weekend. Again the players were motivated from the large Brid Og support from the sidelines and hopefully this is the start of a winning run for the Og’s.
Well done Brid Og and bring on St John’s next Sunday.
