The 19 players who played for St Brigids included four on the under 17 Antrim development panel and thses boys were dead on their feet by the full time whistle last Saturday as they had played a 90 minutes of intensive football ealier in the morning. A minute’s silence was observed for the passing of the late Paddy Flanagan whose grandson Rory turned out and ended up finishing a penalty in fine form to secure the drawing of the game.
Ronan McGrady led the scoring in the first half for the blues and Ruari Mulvenna at full back had his hands full but kept a tight reign on the full forward. Ronan Mackle at centre half back had to be on his toes marking Nolan who was leading the charge for the Down men.
James Kildea and Gerard Henvey played well for the Malone boys and it was Henvey who tucked away a great move to push the home team ahead. Bredagh were always in touching distance and a high ball dropped beyond the reach of Dermot O’Rourke who had a solid display in nets for the blues.
All the players got a good run out as the policy of rolling subs ensured ample game time for all was achieved. A competitive start to a week which sees a game on Wednesday v St Pauls Hollywood at 6:30 in North Down and a game v Carryduff on Sunday.
