On Thursday evening at the Mallusk city council venue the St Brigids second string championship side defeated their counterparts from Ardoyne in the reserve cup 3-10 to 2-3 and they now face Gort na Mona on Sept 1st.
This team, due to county rules on eligiblity, can be made up of non graded senior panel players and those who have not played senior championship this year.
So a strong panel on paper is available for selection including those players who played Ulster League and Antrim Division 4 this year.
The club will also field a senior all county football team in the intermediate reserve championship, the reserve shield. This is a first for the club, and this side, largely comprising some of the Division 4 players and the South Antrim team’s, will have its first championship game next Thursday. So there is plenty of scope for football yet, despite league football being wrapped for all except for the Div 1 side.
The reserve shield team play Moneyglass on Sept 1 in the first round game in the chmpionship shield.
