NAOMH BRID GIRLS PREPARE FOR FEILE 2010

The Naomh Brid U14 girls finished their Feile preparations with a fine victory over visiting Dublin team, Foxrock Cabintely.

Foxrock have much in common with the relatively recently formed St Brigids being set up less than 10 years ago themselves. In that time they have won the All Ireland Girls Feile in 2005 , being only the second Dublin club ever to do so, and the All Ireland Intermediate Football title in 2007 when many of the feile team were involved. The Dublin club is therefore acutely aware of the importance of Feile success in promoting ladies football in the club and wish the Belfast club all the very best in the All Ireland series.

The club from the Dublin Southside is always keen to play games outside their county and they brought 2 teams up to Belfast to play a double header in a sun baked Musgrave park on Sunday.

The first game saw the St Brigid’s U12s, fresh from capturing the plate the previous day in the Carryduff tournament, put up a very spirited challenge against their Dublin equivalents. In the end the exploits of the previous day took its toll and the Foxrock girls ran out winners.

The main event of the day turned out to be a real cracker. The Dublin girls proved to be very able opponents for the Antrim champions. From the throwin the passion and skill on display from both teams captured and captivated the strong following of supporters.

Naomh Brid set the early pace with a couple of points before Foxrock replied with a well taken goal. 4 more points were slotted over by the Belfast girls before Foxrock registered their opening point.  Playing against a stiff breeze the St Brigids girls conceded 2 further goals and 1 point before ending the half 3:2 – 1:4 down.

After an encouraging half time team talk, the South Belfast girls took a grip of the second period of play. Although another 2 goals and 1 point were conceded, the Dublin girls were no match for the skill and powerful running of the Belfast team. St Brigids registered a total of 3:10 in the second half to run out overall winners by   4:14 – 5:3.

This was a great and testing workout and just what the St brigids girls needed ahead of their trip to Derry this Friday.
