Under 8 hurling challenge Friday 18th June YMCA

On a beautiful evening YMCA was the field of dreams for these younger hurlers who played their heart out against one of the strongest hurling clubs in Antrim. St Brigid’s hurlers have trained hard over the last year and have enjoyed the recent challenges of club matches, where they have excelled in their skills and commitment to the game.

The squads were split into two teams, one younger in age than the other. St. Brigid’s younger team played superbly to register a win over the opponents and many thanks to Conan and Aodhan McNicholl’s mum and dad for taking charge of this team.

In the older team challenge, Rossa put up a great challenge and quite obviously they are hurling on a higher level with great skill and commitment. This match was a wake up call for St. Brigid’s older boys who now will hopefully realize the aggression needed to compete at hurling. These boys are getting a lot of games at the present moment and whilst there will be no games in July, there will be lots of hurling at the Cul Camp in mid August before returning to training in the new academic year from September onwards.

The under 8 squad are playing again on Tuesday and it is hoped that we shall see more of the following

AGGRESSION
ATTACKING THE BALL
FIRST TIME STRIKING

When we did that against Rossa we overpowered them to score a goal – just like the Offaly of old against Galway yesterday Sunday in Croke Park.

The weather is great at the moment so why not come along to the YMCA to support these young hurlers.
