St Brigid’s U12 footballers continued their strong start to 2010 season with an excellent team display against Gort na Mona in round 2 of the U12 Go Games. In the opening period Enda Kelly McCann and Peter Webb were both in fine form and scored 1-1 and 0-3 respectively. The St Brigid’s half back line of Patrick Finnegan, Owen Winters and Frank McCormack were also on top of their game – not only defensively but in attack – as they timed their runs perfectly to support the midfield and half forward line.
In the second period, Peter Webb and Owen Winters combined well in midfield where they let little by. A highlight was one particular high ball catch by Peter. Up front, Enda Kelly McCann continued his scoring spree and added a further 1-2, whilst Phelim Lennon also added two fine points and Damian Magee netted a goal. Phelim had a very strong game in this period, getting out well in front of his man to take/win the ball early.
In the closing period, St Brigid’s continued to move the ball quickly and opened up a number of excellent chances. This was aided by the full forwards Henry Doran and Ethan Carleton timing their runs well to create space for St Brigid’s to play fast open football. Further scores followed. Patrick Finnegan scored an excellent long range point, whilst Peter Lavery scored his usual customary goal to finish a fine team move/display.
