South Antrim League

St Teresa’s v St Brigids

On a sunny & calm evening on the Glen Road , St Brigids 3rds had their second outing in this year’s South Antrim League. Expectations were high of the strong starting 15 of Oisin Donnelly, Lorcan (Solid) McGarvey, Gary (Duracell) Brennan, Matt Kelly, Colm Moane, Ciaran (Ping) Smyth, Collie Connolly, Mickey (I’m getting too old for this, dog!) Donnelly, Paddy (The Destroyer) Magill, Ryan Mackle, Niall (Barney) Conway, Keelan (The Come Back Kid) McCrudden, Mick Lafferty, Luke (The Pup) McCann & Paul (Capt.) McIntyre.

After a shakey start to the first half, including going a goal down, the visiting team settled down nicely, & by half time had taken the lead thanks to well taken scores from Mickey Donnelly – flukey point, Luke McCann (1-1), Keelan McCrudden & Captain Courageous, Paul McIntyre, with his first point for Naomh Brid!

The second half was (apart from a 10 minute spell when the Malone Rd Gaels lay down & had a wee snooze) much of the same, with a raft of subs coming off the bench to push home the advantage. 2 excellent scores by Denis Stack underpinned the strength in depth that the St Brigids men have in 2010, & showed him as a player to watch for the season ahead.

Subs: Denis Stack, Don Wallace, Decky McCann, Ben Kelly, Conal Devine, John McQuillan, Andy Duffy, Seamus Corrigan, John Matthews

Final Score: St Teresa’s 1-05: St Brigids 1-10

All in all, an solid performance by the visiting team, with a number of positives to be taken from the game. A good turnout at training from here on is needed for players to secure their places on the team, & to ‘iron out’ a few creases in basic handling skills, concentration & structure! Watch the website for details re training & the next match.
