GIRLS Under 14 BLITZ

Saturday 5 September 2009

St Brigid’s under 14 girls gathered, at the invitation of Ardoyne, on the superb all weather pitches at St Malachy’s Grammar school on the Antrim Road for what proved to be a fantastic day of entertaining gaelic football. A squad of twenty five eager and talented young Naomh Brid footballers attended ready and raring to play enabling the club to enter two teams in the 10 a side blitz – imaginatively called A and B!

Naomh Brid A played St Paul’s, St Gall’s and Glenariff whilst Naomh Brid B played Pearses’, Ardoyne and Moneyglass.

On the day no scores were kept, the emphasis being placed on skills, commitment, team work, fitness and fun. There were many magnificent individual performances throughout both squads and a great sense of pride was felt by all the girls involved and by the many parents and relatives who came along to give support and help on the day and were able to witness the young Naomh Brid girls in full flight.

The weather was kind and the atmosphere electric all thanks to our generous hosts Ardoyne who made the day a wonderful and fulfilling experience for all taking part.

The underage section of the club is thriving and it was tremendous for players and mentors alike to have so many parents and relatives in support. It is very encouraging to observe the enjoyment and pride all members of the ladies section are experiencing, from the youngest u10 player right through to the victorious senior ladies who are now the Junior County Champions as is apparent from the photographs of both events. It is a privilege to be part of this era but there is no room for complacency. There is much room for improvement and there is an open invitation for more volunteers – simply approach any of the team mentors at any time.

Photos to follow in Gallery section soon.
