u12s vs Lamh Dhearg
21st August 21, 2009, Musgrave
The u12s finished the league season with a thrilling victory over Lamh Dhearg at Musgrave Park.

Early exchanges resulted in a narrow miss by Conor King, and three excellent saves by Ethan Carlton, assisted by a solid defence. Lamh Dhearg opened the scoring, but well taken points by Neill O’Reilly and Conor King gave the home side a narrow lead.
Lamh Dhearg again levelled before Shane Moran and Peter Webb edged the home side ahead. A third Lamh Dhearg point left a half-time score of 0-4 to 0-3. The score reflected an even match, too close to call!

Lamh Dhearg restarted the stronger and three well-taken points from distance gave the visitors the edge. St Brigid’s responded by playing with more width, and moved the ball accurately from defence, with Daire McGarvey often cleverly by-passing midfield.
Peter Webb scored a point, then an important goal with strong runs from the right half forward to the full-forward position(1-5 : 0-6). Lamh Dhearg deservedly levelled with two further points from play and again looked favourites.
However strong defence throughout from Finbar Devlin, Paul McCullagh and Gavin Campbell kept St Brigid’s goal in tact, restricting the visitors to long range points, and this proved crucial to the outcome.

Rory Smyth started to dominate, winning possession, making great support runs and using the ball well. This provided ‘good’ ball for Shane Moran and Michael Cummings and gave the home side impetus. The decisive strikes then followed.
Ciaran Diamond surged forward form half forward onto a Moran pass and struck a super goal, a move which had started by the defence winning the ball. Following a Lamh Dhearg point, John Duffy rose highest to force home a goal from a right wing cross (3-5 : 0-9). He was unlucky not to add to this, in the next move as the Lamh Dhearg keeper made a great save. St Brigid’s then played with more control and points followed from O’Reilly, Webb(2), Moran, and King. Michael Cummings added the final score (3-11; 0-9).

St Brigid’s converted most of their chances in this match and defended with great resolve. This was a real ‘team’ performance.
