Gort na Mona 0-0 St Brigids 1-10
St Brigid’s U12s continued their fine recent form with a solid win against a well organised Gort na Mona team at Enwright Park. A fast and open game was played in a very sporting manner by both sides. St Brigid’s settled very quickly and from the outset they linked well together moving the ball with speed throughout the entire team. Peter Webb returning from injury and playing in a more marauding wing role than his normal midfield berth showed his versatility with two fine points from distance to open the score. This was complemented by an equally strong run and shot from Shane Moran at centre half forward who also scored the only goal of the game shortly before half time. St Brigid’s dominated the play during this period with the half back line of Joseph Finnegan, Rory Smith and Patrick Finnegan getting forward at every opportunity to set up great scoring opportunities for the forwards. This was epitomised when Patrick Finnegan, when later switched to corner back, finished a fine end to end team move. This was also notable in that it was taken with some aplomb from a narrow angle with his supposedly weaker left foot. Michael Cummings also slotted over a fine point after a very clever switch of play from Paul McCullough who had come on at half time. Conor King, who was winning great possession at midfield, crowned a fine personal display with two carbon copy fisted points – both taken from some distance. Rory McAllister again showed his keen eye for goal and had a blistering shot saved by the excellent Gort na Mona keeper. However, in keeping with his impressive run of recent scores, Rory later showed good composure to take a great point from a narrow angle. This was followed shortly by a similar fine score by Ryan Mulligan. Over the course of match, St Brigid’s entire panel contributed, showing great versatility and team spirit
