In their opening South Antrim league fixture at the YMCA on Thursday evening the under 16s shared the points with a strong St John’s side. After a shaky start when they fell quickly five points adrift, Naomh Brid settled down and began to match their opponents intensity. The sides went in level at the interval but St John’s more productive scoring department kept nudging them ahead in the second period. A couple of point blank saves from goalkeeper Michael Campbell kept the margin down as the impressive Mark Salters was popping up everywhere to repel the away advances. A late Daniel Lavery goal seemed to have snatched both points for Naomh Brid, but that would have been harsh on the Johnnies who scored a deserved equaliser on the whistle. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Ronan Mackle who unfortunately sustained a broken jaw.
