In a pulsating encounter at Rossa on Tuesday evening, St Brigid’s U14s played out of their skins to overcome a fancied St John’s side by three points to reach their first South Antrim championship final. In a match that St Brigid’s dominated almost from start to finish it was not until Cathal Conway, who was outstanding at midfield, crashed home a second half penalty that the south Belfast boys appeared home and dry. But that was not the end as the Johnnies forwards proved their lasting threat and hit back with two goals themselves to set up a frantic finale. However, St Brigid’s defence, marshalled superbly by John Keenan, held the fort as time ran out for the Whiterock Road club. A fantastic achievement for both panel and management. Clearly a lot a hard graft is being done behind the scenes. But there is nothing won yet. Let’s dig deep for the big one!
Final score: Naomh Brid 2-8 Naomh Eoin 2-5
